Stockwood Defibrillator Incident

Defibs4Bristol
Damaged Defibrillator in Stockwood

Last Saturday at 8am, Simon received an unexpected call from a passerby who discovered that the defibrillator at Stockwood Health Centre had been clearly and deliberately removed from its cabinet and left bleeping on top.

The cabinet's lid catch was broken, preventing it from staying closed. No 999 call was made to access the defibrillator, and there was no police activity in the area related to antisocial behaviour at the time. Simon instructed the passerby to remove the battery and provided the code to secure the damaged unit inside the cabinet.

Unfortunately, Zoll, the defibrillator's manufacturer, stated that this incident is not covered under the theft part of the agreement, and the repair quote stands at £175.

In the interim, Simon has placed a temporary spare defibrillator at Stockwood Health Centre while the damaged unit is sent off for repair. This swift action ensures that the community continues to have access to a defibrillator in case of emergencies.

Simon also reached out to local councillor Graham Morris, who has been instrumental in spreading the word about the incident on social media. Graham's support is greatly appreciated as we work together to resolve this issue. Investigations are ongoing to understand how this incident occurred.

This situation highlights a setback for the community, as the availability of a functioning defibrillator is crucial for public safety. We are committed to restoring the defibrillator as quickly as possible and appreciate the community's understanding and support during this time.

We extend our gratitude to the passerby for their quick action, demonstrating how community vigilance can make a difference.
