Defibs4Bristol founder Simon Brookes featured on BBC Radio Bristol with presenter Andy Bennett discussing CPR and public access defibrillators.

Earlier this week, on Bank Holiday Monday, Defibs4Bristol founder Simon Brookes joined Andy Bennett on BBC Radio Bristol to discuss the importance of public access defibrillators and the work being carried out across the city.

During the interview, Simon reflected on the journey since launching Defibs4Bristol in 2018 and the recent milestone of supporting 60 defibrillator installations across Bristol.

The discussion covered the importance of both CPR and defibrillators during a cardiac arrest, with Simon highlighting the need for rapid intervention during the vital first few minutes following a collapse.

Simon also encouraged listeners to familiarise themselves with the location of their nearest defibrillators and explained how the Defib Finder website can be used to identify devices in their local area.

A key message throughout the interview was that while installing defibrillators is important, ongoing maintenance is equally vital. Every device must be regularly checked, monitored and kept available for use should a 999 caller be directed to it during an emergency.

The interview also touched on the impact Bristol's defibrillator network is already having, with Defibs4Bristol-supported devices having been activated on multiple occasions since the project began.

We would like to thank Andy Bennett and BBC Radio Bristol for the opportunity to help raise awareness of CPR, public access defibrillators, and the importance of community involvement in improving survival rates from out-of-hospital cardiac arrests.

If you would like to support our work, learn CPR, or help bring a defibrillator to your community, please get in touch.
