We’re pleased to report that the defibrillator cabinet at The Sandringham pub on Sandy Park Road in Brislington is now back online following accidental damage.
This defibrillator was originally installed in April 2021, thanks to a fundraising effort met by both local residents and a nearby business. The cabinet has since become a vital part of the area’s emergency response network - and within the first six months of going live, it was used twice, with one life saved after a bystander performed CPR at the scene.
Earlier this month, the cabinet was believed to have been sideswiped by industrial wheelie bins, damaging the door and breaking a hinge where the spot weld had come loose. Fortunately, the pub team and locals were quick to act - rallying together to protect their community’s life-saving equipment.
Special thanks to Johnny “Longlegs”, a local with welding expertise, who kindly stepped in to re-weld the cabinet and restore it to working condition. The defibrillator is now fully live and accessible to 999 callers once again.

This incident is a reminder that our work doesn’t end once a defibrillator is on the wall. It’s not just about fundraising - it’s about maintaining them too.
That’s why our guardian support network is essential.
We’re lucky to have community-minded partners at The Sandringham pub and within the neighbourhood who continue to look out for this defib. Plans are also underway to add protective guard bars to reduce the risk of future damage.
A huge thank you to Johnny, the Sandringham pub team, and everyone in Brislington who helps keep this vital device in service.
