We’re excited to share an update on our latest project - bringing a 24/7 community-accessible defibrillator to Redland Station.

Why Redland?

At present, there is a 400-metre gap in the network around the station, leaving a significant area without access to a defibrillator. With 80% of cardiac arrests happening at home, it’s vital that residents, businesses, and rail users alike have access to lifesaving equipment nearby.

Partnership with GWR

Great Western Railway (GWR) already fund defibrillators at their busiest stations, but smaller stations like Redland are not automatically included. The good news is that GWR have agreed to host the device at Redland and cover ongoing maintenance costs once it has been installed.

The defibrillator will be WiFi-enabled, allowing GWR and their partner to know instantly if it needs attention, ensuring it remains ready for use at all times.

Costs and Fundraising

The full installation - including the unit, cabinet, WiFi router, commissioning, and long-term monitoring - comes in at around £2,800. Thanks to the support of the Redland & Cotham Amenities Society (RCAS), we already have £1,000 pledged. Local residents and businesses are also stepping forward to help.

Stacks of printed fundraising leaflets for Defibs4Bristol’s Redland Station campaign, featuring QR code to donate.

We’ve printed and started distributing 500 leaflets across the area to raise awareness, and early donations are beginning to come in. If you live or work in the Redland area, you might even meet Simon soon - he’ll be out leafleting, happy to tell you more, and ready to answer any questions.

We are a not-for-profit community group. Every penny raised goes directly into purchasing, installing, and maintaining defibrillators across Bristol.

Any funds raised above the target will be used to support ongoing maintenance of Bristol’s existing 57 defibrillators and to help fund new sites across the city.

How You Can Help

Every contribution, big or small, brings us closer to closing this critical gap in the network.
