Life-saving equipment for RAFA club

A 24 HOUR public access defibrillation machine has been installed at the RAFA club in Westbury-on-Trym.
The machine is in memory of Rosemary Hammond, wife of Bob Hammond, who together with Simon Brookes is fundraising to provide defibrillation machines around the city.
Simon, a Community First Responder with South West Ambulance Service for nine years who now teaches CPR to the public, says: "I would hate to think that somebody passes away because there isn't a machine nearby. Immediate action from a bystander and early defibrillation are key to increasing someone's chance of surviving a cardiac arrest."
Public access defibrillators can be found at the following locations in the Henleaze and Westbury Voice area: Southmead fire station, the Methodist Church Hall and White Lion pub in Westbury village, and at the junction of Waterford Road and Henleaze Road. Each has a voice and visual prompt to tell people what to do to help someone having a heart attack.
Simon has received a defibrillator for North View, funded by local donations, which will be positioned soon. He's currently working with The Beehive at Wellington Hill West and shops in Stoke Bishop to raise funds to place the life-saving equipment there too.
