No. 55 – Fishpool Hill Gets Its First Defibrillator Thanks to Local Residents

We’re proud to announce that our 55th defibrillator is now live in Fishpool Hill, Brentry - a project entirely driven by a local group of residents.

Fishpool Hill is a small, semi-rural neighbourhood on the northwestern fringe of Bristol, where access to life-saving equipment like defibrillators has been limited. That changed recently after Simon was invited to speak at a local community meeting, where around 15–20 residents gathered to explore how they could get one installed. Their motivation was clear: the area’s relative remoteness, coupled with long ambulance wait times and a lack of nearby defibrillator coverage, made having a unit locally feel essential.

One resident, who has been constructing his home in the area over the past two years, stepped up and offered to host the cabinet on the exterior wall of his property. The group then collectively raised the funds required to fund the equipment and its installation. The defibrillator was supplied directly by Defibs4Bristol, and the unit is now fully registered and providing 24/7 public access.

Plans are now underway to hold a community training session with the local community in the coming weeks, helping residents feel confident using the equipment if ever it’s needed. We’ve always believed that a defibrillator on the wall is just the start - it’s the people nearby, equipped with knowledge and confidence, who truly save lives.

A huge thank you to the residents of Fishpool Hill for their initiative, funding, and enthusiasm. This is a perfect example of what can happen when a community comes together to make a difference.
