We’re incredibly proud to announce that with our latest installation at The Sportsman in Bishopston, Defibs4Bristol has now reached 50 publicly accessible defibrillators across the city. This is a huge moment in our journey to make Bristol a safer place, ensuring that life-saving equipment is always within reach in an emergency.
50 Installations – Where We’ve Made a Difference
Since 2018, Simon has been working hard to install life-saving defibrillators in high-need locations, from bustling pubs to community centres, gyms, and health facilities. Here's how our impact breaks down:
Pubs & Restaurants: 13 installations
Community Centres & Churches: 8 installations
Medical & Health Facilities: 7 installations
Sports Venues: 3 installations (including two at Bristol Rovers' Memorial Stadium)
Businesses & Other Locations: 19 installations (including taxi offices, gyms, and residential buildings)
These partnerships amplify our reach, ensuring that more people across Bristol have quick access to defibrillators in critical moments.
From Door-Knocking to Digital Growth: Our Journey So Far
Defibs4Bristol was founded in 2018 by Simon Brookes, a lifelong Bristol resident with a passion for community safety. In the early days, Simon would knock on doors, leave leaflets, and campaign tirelessly to raise awareness. He has long provided free CPR training, educating people on how to act in an emergency.
In 2022, we went digital, which marked a turning point for Defibs4Bristol. With an increased online presence, installations surged, and more businesses and individuals began reaching out directly through our website, helping us expand faster than ever before.
Simon’s efforts have since been recognised on a much wider scale - he has been featured in various local and national news outlets, including BBC News, ITV, and BBC Radio Bristol, helping to spread awareness about the importance of publicly accessible defibrillators.
A Huge Thank You
This milestone would not have been possible without the support of so many people and organisations.
To the businesses and community groups that have stepped up to host defibrillators - your commitment is ensuring that more people have access to life-saving equipment when they need it most.
To the local charities and organisations that have fundraised to make these installations possible -your efforts have directly contributed to expanding defibrillator coverage across Bristol.
To the media organisations that have amplified Simon’s work - helping to spread awareness and encourage more communities to take action.
To the volunteers, donors, and everyone who has shared our message - every conversation, donation, and act of support has played a role in reaching this milestone.
Reaching 50 installations is a significant achievement, but the real impact is the lives that may be saved because of this work.
What’s Next?
While 50 installations is an important milestone, there is still more to do. Our goals for the future include:
Expanding our network further to reach under-served areas of Bristol.
Working with more businesses to make defibrillators a standard feature in public spaces.
Providing more CPR and defibrillator training so people feel confident using the equipment.
We believe that no one in Bristol should be too far from a defibrillator when they need one.
